'Ano 'ai e Clint
My name is Joyce and I play and teach recreational ukulele in San Antonio, Texas.
Mahalo for the theory info. I have mostly strummers in my groups, but I started a
small Pickers and Grinners class a year ago. I am using the EZPlay Today books to introduce
reading standard notation. I call it learning music with training wheels.
I will post your site on my website www.alohayall.net and send your link to my student
email list.
A hui hou.

My name is Doug Gaither. I just purchased a Fluke Uke Tenor for Christmas for my family.
I putter around the internet looking for good information. I'm very pleased with
your site. Good information with a fun and inviting design.
Anyways, I am 42 years old and my main instrument is piano (I'm a music
pastor), but I also diddle around on guitar, mandolin, banjo, dulcimer
and now ukulele. I'm not really good at anything, but I have a great time!
I live in Fresno California, home of the fog/smog/grapes/raisins. I've
never been to Hawaii. I have a 1920's Echo Ukulele that is currently being repaired by
Duane Heilman in Washington.
I have 3 children that I'm encouraging any musical inclinations they may have.
Of course, step one is accessibility to instruments. So I purchased a Uke this past
Christmas and a Baby Taylor guitar the previous Christmas.
Anyways, great site, great instrument, great camaraderie amongst Ukulele
players!
Doug

Clint, I understand that besides playing the ukulele and the sax, that you are a
pretty good rock thrower? Actually, I can vouch for that first hand, or should
I say head first!!
Great website!!!

Oh yeah, cuz! Playin' round on da Spanish Island Da Kine, yeah?

Tena Koe!
I'm jus written to say that I'm really stoked that I found your site and dat
it has helped me heaps wit my ukulele playing but I'm startin to get frustrated
because it is so hard to teach yourself how to play the ukulele but like the Maori of
New Zealand say-
He moana pukepuke e ekengia e te waka
(A rough sea can be navigated)
Naku noa your friend Christopher Huriwai
1-4-04,Clint
No worries, cuz. Next time you in L.A. I give you free lesson, yeah?
You need to sign my Network page Chris, there may be someone close to you
who can help.

Kia ora e hoa
It's me again I'm writing to ask you a question. In one of my "how to" books
it says to tune the uke to ADF#B but here at your site (and many others) I'm
told differently, what should I do?
Arohanui Tonu
Christopher Huriwai
1-3-04,Clint
Eh Chris, you go the other sites? (Shame on you cuz!)
:)
Basically the ADF#B tuning has made a gradual change to the more standard and popular
GCEA tuning of today. All this does is lower the entire instrument a whole step
(musically) as well as make it easier for the bruddas to sing not so high,
and believe me a whole step is a lot for da guys.
Keep GCEA and if you want to play some songs ADF#B, then either raise all
the strings a whole step or put da capo on da second fret.
In the end the choice is really yours.
Mahalo, my New Zealand friend.

I'm a musician new to the uke but falling in love with it!
My band, "Bandinistas!" have embraced the sound too, even though I'm
still only learning the chords (I mostly play trumpet). Every time I surf the net
for more info I find lovely sites like yours and realize that this is a little instrument with a
big mission - to bring fun and music to the world!
I'm in Cambridge, England, of Scottish extraction and would love one day to
visit Hawaii - I'm saving as we speak but in the mean time thank you to the people
who invented the internet and to you for this great website - now I'm learning
my minor 9th chords...

Hi, Great Page! I live in Florida with my hubby, just went and bought guitar
strings for him and saw a little soprano ukulele there for sale. It intrigued me and after
reading your page, I will purchase it tomorrow and plan to visit your page often. This

when the sun sets :-)
Thanks again!

On December 10th, they added a nice review of your website and are adding it to their
directory. I was glad to see that other people appreciate your efforts and website as
much as I do. Keep up the good work and I hope to see you and take another lesson soon.

I used to play the ukulele before WWII. Then started playing the guitar when I was about 45
years old and played for about another 6 to 7 years. OK but not great. I now just bought
a baritone uke and trying to get back to playing. I hope your site helps. I need some
songs to play and chord advice. Will be back here often.
12-20-03,Clint

Good luck in your ukulele journey, Walter. Thanks for signin'.

I am from Honolulu Hawaii now living in Kansas. I don't play any instruments. I miss my
local songs. I am getting kind of tired of COUNTRY MUSIC...need to show these HAOLE'S
some local music yeah. Well I have to get back to work. Just wanted to say thank you.

Well, I added this site onto my favorites when I first got my uke. I haven't
ACTUALLY come to read it until today. I caught the flu so I stayed home from school and
had plenty of time on my hands. Your site is alot of help. I know all the music theory
stuff because I play another four stringed instrument much different, the violin.
But the music is all the same. The only problem I have with the uke and guitar is that I
have trouble strumming, but anyway practice should fix that.
I visited Hawaii last year with my family and it inspires me to move there and live there
when I get older. I bought my uke from a nice man on the top floor of the Hilton in Waikiki.
Island Ukulele Co, I think. It was just a year ago during Christmas. Anyway I'm in
Jr. High School over here in California. Yup, not too far, yet far. My progress
isn't THAT great, but I was inspired to play again and make some music. Awesome site.
Inspires me also. Take care.

My husband and I play and strum and build ukes in the beautiful Hill Country of Texas.
He learned the uke years ago (must be why he's such a good guitar
player!!) I just started last year, but I'm trying to catch up!
12-10-03,Vern Maddox Age 66
I just recently returned to the finest little instrument in the world-the ukulele!
I played as a young kid but that was over 50 years ago! I love Hawaii in every way,
including the music. I would love to get together with some Hawaiian-ukulele lovers
in the Houston, Texas area, but have had no luck meeting anyone of like interests.
I know they are around, I just can't seem to find them. Any ideas? I have two
ukuleles by Ken Potts of Maui (KP Ukuleles), a tenor and a baritone. Both
are strung with low G strings and are truly beautiful ukes.

Hello! I'm from Australia - the largest island. I've been to Hawaii and
Fiji, and I fell in love. I'm a singer and I have just bought a Ukulele to
raffle to the children I teach for their end of the year concert, and I've fallen in
love with playing it - I have to buy one for myself!
I love your site - now that I've
learned to play "Big Yellow Taxi" and tune the sweet uke, your site
will be of great use to me and my students.
I wanted to ask you - I know a beautiful islander song and dance from the Tongan
Islands called "Haire Ra Mai" (sung Hi-ra-mi). I was wondering
if you know it. I want to check its meaning - I believe it is a welcoming song, when
people arrive to the island. Just wondering. Thanks for your site. Beautiful.

Aloha, I just received your strummers playbook and think it is really an awesome
compilation of great old songs and some cool contemporary songs too.
The way it is written makes it very easy for me to
play even the hardest chords. Your website has been very helpful in guiding me through
my ukulele learning process. I think you have the best information of any ukulele site
out there. I appreciate all your hard work. Thanks again for the awesome book.
11-26-03,Clint
I've sent a few books out to people, but so far your book took the farthest trip,
(Rhode Island). I appreciate your kind words Tom, Mahalo.

I am an English and drama teacher in the real northern California, Yreka
which is just 20 minutes from the Oregon border. My friend, Kerry Penberthy,
whose son and mine, were born eight days apart while she lived in Yreka, are
buddies. She is in your class and inspired me to learn the Uke! I have
one ordered which should arrive this Tuesday. I am a singer-actor in our
local community theater and have always wanted to play an instrument but
not put the time in to learning notes. I sing by ear...after all my
exhaustive Internet research, it seems I have chosen the instrument for me!
Being very petite and weirdly wonderful, this instrument is already speaking
to me! Thanks to Kerry and her raves about you, Clint, I soon will be
strumming! Let's hear it for music, ukes and inspiration!
11-23-03,Clint
Mahalo, Judy, glad you finally found you island love. If you eva down
dis way, stop by da South Bay Strummas on Saturday morning, yeah?

South Bay Strummers RULE! See Ya, Linda
P.S. I found the Wahines! Very nice, but can we have some hunky kanes?
